Iowa Finance Authority
Home- and Community Based Services Rent Subsidy Program

Revised Administrative Rules effective as of November 29, 2017.

Application Period

The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) accepts applications for the Home- and Community-Based Services Rent Subsidy Program on an ongoing basis. A waiting list has been established, with applications being processed in the order they are received.

The HCBS Rent Subsidy program aids eligible applicants who receive services under Money Follows the Person or one of the Medicaid home-and community-based services waiver programs, including Habilitation Services.

The program provides a monthly rent assistance payment to applicants to help them live successfully in the community until they become eligible for other local, state or federal rent assistance. In Iowa, the program helps an average of 354 Iowans each month to stay in their home and to remain a part of their community.

Monthly Due Dates
IFA processes payments approximately three to five days prior to the end of the month for the following month’s rent payment. In order to ensure that applicants’ most current information is reflected for the upcoming rent subsidy payment, please submit any applications or change of information requests no later than 4:30 p.m. on the 15th day of the month.
